One of the highlights of Saranda only 2 km from the city. A treasure of local cultural and heritage located 2 kilometers from Saranda on the top of a hill among the ruins of the village of the same name, the Lekurësi Castle was probably built in the 16th or 17th century during the conquest of the Ottoman Empire while being enlarged by Ali Pasha of Tepelena and abandoned during the 19th century.
The panoramic view here reaches all the way to Corfu and the Greek
border. The British diplomat William Martin Leake, visited the village
in December 1804 and he describes it as ‘a small square white-washed
fort to which there is a paved zig-zag path leading up the mountain’.
